Indigenous Network Of Communicators
Apib – Articulation of the Indigenous Peoples of Brazil
Instituto Alok supports the consolidation of the Indigenous Network of Communicators, through a partnership with the leader Sônia Guajajara and Apib for the permanent construction of strategies of political incidence. Communication plays a central role in positioning, promoting and defending indigenous issues.
Amplifying the voices of the indigenous movement is a necessary challenge for the future of the planet. The genocide and ethnocide generated by the European invasion in Brazil promoted violence that is perpetuated to this day with the constant invasions of traditional territories, assassinations of leaders, racism, among others. Indigenous peoples and territories constitute, to this day, an important ecosystem for the safeguarding of life in the world.
Facing violations of rights and strengthening the understanding of the importance of peoples and their territories for humanity constitute a constant challenge where communication has a central role for the visibility and political formation of conscience of the whole society.
Networking in an organic and responsible way requires moments of face-to-face interaction between the community and this project aims to provide a meeting between these communicators who have the mission of giving visibility and amplifying the voices of the indigenous movement.
About Apib:
Apib was created during the 2005 Terra Livre Camp, at a time when regional indigenous leaders were beginning to become notorious nationally but were still quite dispersed and isolated. Its goals are:
- strengthen the union of indigenous peoples, the articulation between the different regions and indigenous organizations in the country;
- unify the struggles of indigenous peoples, the agenda of claims, demands and the policy of the indigenous movement;
- mobilize the country’s indigenous peoples and organizations against threats and attacks on indigenous rights.
